Finding a Valentine at the last possible minute

You’ve heard me whine about Valentine’s Day and you’ve heard me offer up some advice. Now it’s time to take the bull by the horns and MANIFEST a Valentine! If you want one, that is. No pressure. 🙂

Crazy Blind Date! What a perfect day to test out OKCupid’s newest get-out-and-date service. See if you can set up something quicker than your usual online timeline. Even if there’s no insta-click in person, you can be proud that you took a risk and spent this awkward holiday with someone who could have been a keeper, instead of just being bummed to be dateless.

Social network it up! Ask your friends on Facebook/Twitter/etc. if they feel like setting you up super last-minute with anyone they know is single and looking. What’s the harm? Your friends probably have decent taste; they like you, right? If there’s no spark, no big deal. Chalk it up to the weird forced holiday nature to ease out of any potentially awkward aftermath. (Just be gracious yet firm about refusing any future dates if you can tell there’s no chemistry.)

Singles party! The Stranger is having an intimidating-yet-awesome-sounding fĂŞte tonight, and I bet similar singles shindigs are going down in other major cities all over the country and possibly world. Maybe you feel like dragging your ass to one of them? The bonus is that, even if these parties sound awkward, you KNOW anyone you meet there is on the market, and probably game to be flirty. So it helps clarify intentions, just like the Internet!

Online it up! Go revamp your profile, and message anyone who appears as “online” today. Look, if they’re browsing profiles on V-Day, they’re definitely single and definitely looking, and are more likely to message you back than any other time of year. Go nuts. Nudge and wink. See what happens! Lots of sites do discounted communication specials for Valentine’s Day, too, so poke around if you’re broke (or just use a free site like OKCupid or Plenty of Fish).

Whatever you end up doing, have fun and don’t take it too seriously either way. Happy V-Day to all!
