Sight, a short film about dating and the digital age

Grant and I often go to Cinebarre, a local-ish movie theater that serves food and drinks during screenings. They’re a cool independent-vibe operation, and what we love most is that they play short films before the previews instead of horrible trivia and ads that end up being full of spoilers. Anyway, when we saw Elysium there recently, they played the short film Sight and I was rapt with attention. (You guys know I’m a total sucker for sci-fi-esque rom-coms, right? Well Sight isn’t quite that, but it’s in the same vein.)

I don’t want to ruin it for you, so please, check it out for yourselves, and I’ll keep all the spoilersy talk AFTER the embedded video, deal? Deal!

***Dammit, man, I said SPOILERS!***

OK, so first of all, I love how the actress intentionally excludes that she’s a vegetarian, because even in this futuristic world she still has the romantic notion of leaving something to the imagination, and the in-person discovery process. I like envisioning a future where tech doesn’t totally expose all for EVERY user. 🙂 (I know it’s fiction, but still!)

Second, I totally wanna play that cucumber slicing game. 🙂

Third, I love how she’s like “no dude for reals my Sight totes crashed,” you know? Like, this crazy AI tech isn’t perfect even when it’s that sophisticated.

I’m not totally wild about the ending, but you know… not my film.

And of COURSE, I’m fascinated by all the mid-date behavior and multitasking. Horrified, fascinated, and not remotely surprised.

So what did you guys think?
